Most of us some day will face the challenge of aging and losing mobility. In an earlier article, Furniture Fashion discussed ADA bathrooms designed for aging in place. The reality for many of us is that we may have to make changes to our homes to accommodate our aging. The good news is that there is still a way to be "chic" and have a bathroom that does not look like it belongs in a hospital. The Auxilium is an example where function and style combine to provide a nice bathroom. First off, I like the white rails as a nice contrast to the typical stainless steel or nickel models. You can see that rails are strategically placed near the toilet, shower, and sink to provide extra stability. I also like the extra bar underneath the sink which can provide a place to hang a towel or a place to rest a cane against. The shower floor is flush with the bathroom floor which provides additional safety as it is not necessary to step into the shower area. The alarming facts are that many people have falls in bathrooms where hips and other bones are broken. The bathroom remains one of the most dangerous places in a home for handicapped individuals or those with limited mobility, but that does not mean that you have to leave style behind. Product: here.

Crono White Bathroom Fixtures from Olympia

One of the amazing things in bathroom design is the number of situations where a classic set of fixtures can work. There are other areas where a bathroom can be spruced up through the use of colors and accents. Pictured here is the "Crono" line from Olympia. Crono features a white ceramic appeal with stainless steel hardware. All of the fixtures are "right sized" so as to not create an over-balance in a bathroom. Fixtures such as these can work in many situations. More information: here.

Tiny Sink for a Contemporary Home Bathroom

In many homes there is often that small bathroom where it is a challenge to get features that can truly accent the space. That is the reason why pedestal sinks are so popular in half bathrooms as they can present style and function all in one piece. Here is tiny sinkoption that packs design flair for a contemporary home bathroom. The sink basin though it has a small diameter, is oversized in its thickness to create a more "sizable" piece. The basin shape is also a bit different providing for some extra pizzazz. The final topper is the purple handle which sets the faucet apart and adds color to the entire ensemble. Available: here.

Hi all,

Handicap bathroom accessories from the part of your handicap bathroom design that puts the finishing touches on the whole. While a well-designed handicap bathroom will function adequately without certain accessories, it all depends upon whether you want a bathroom to be a more functional room, or you want it to be a place that you will enjoy using time and time again. The bathroom is probably the most-used room in the house. Thanks....
